Have you been battling your hair’s natural texture your whole life? When you were little, did you get a lot of compliments about your curls but didn’t know how to tame them? Have you made your hair pin straight just to stop having to battle the tangles and frizz? Do you wish there were more stylists who knew how to give your mane its natural glory instead of fighting what nature gave you?

Take heart! There are more ways than ever to work with what you’ve got. Texture is back and here to stay.

“It’s not really curly…”

First of all, whether you’ve got curls, gentle waves or just an unruly cowlick, you don’t have to fight it or hide it anymore. Texture is here and texture is in. You can, and should, find a stylist who is trained to work with your hair’s texture, not stick with the stylist who isn’t willing to take the time to understand your hair’s individual needs. When it comes to curls, one size does NOT fit all.

Have you given up on finding a stylist who really understands…”

Secondly, don’t let a stylist tell you can’t embrace the curl. Just move on! There is more education available for stylists now than ever before, and more stylists are being trained in all kinds of textured hair – from cuts, to products to styling advice – so take time to find one who is willing to do the work for you.

“There are good products out there for your curly hair!”

New products are coming out all the time. For example, we’ve found that products formulated with oils are a miracle for curls and texture of all kinds. Textured hair is extremely prone to frizz and oils combat that. They also keep your hair looking touchable and able to move – which is something curly girls say they are always looking for. It’s very important to gravitate toward products with natural and organic ingredients. What’s good to put in your body will be best to put on your hair!

Men and Curly Hair

There’s nothing sexier than a man who can embrace his natural wave. Cuts for men with wave and curls are becoming longer. The 70’s flop is back in but with a little bit of product to keep it natural and touchable, the look is modern and effortless. Stylists who know curly hair can show how to style it and reassure them the whole growing-out phase will be painless.

Coloring Curly Hair

This is so important. Find a stylist who does balayage! If they know texture, they will know how to color it so it looks natural. Your stylist can paint each curl for definition. It’s definitely worth the effort. The key to keeping color is hydration. Curls are sensitive, so you need to make sure you hydrate in between with a spray and keep the number of washes in between coloring down to keep it vibrant.

How to Style Curly Hair

Tips is the one that keeps women from embracing their texture and it doesn’t have to be! You don’t have to only visit your stylist when you need a cut. You can make an appointment to learn her tips and tricks for styling curly or wavy hair. There are ways to make your curls looser and more bouncy without smoothing services.

Speaking of smoothing services: it’s not just either curly or pin straight anymore! Smoothing services are customizable. If you want to turn your tight curls into softer, bouncier curls, you can!

You may not know what’s safest for your hair, either because you’ve never tried hair extensions or because you use only one or two kinds and no one has told you what else is out there. There are so many kinds of hair extensions these days!

Have you ever wanted to immediately grow out that cut that was too short? Ever been mortified by the bangs you thought would change everything, but instead made everything worse? Or are you a regular extension user, starting to notice your own hair is thinning or looks damaged and feeling hopeless about finding a better solution? There IS a product out there for you.

Clip-on Hair Extensions

Clip on hair extensions are not the best option for long-term use, but there are things you can do to make them better. They can cause traction alopecia – which is when you start losing hair that never grows back because you’re pulling on it all the time. Think “tight pony tail.” Every time you clip them in and out they are snapping your hair off. The best way to use them is by moving the extensions around so you’re not clipping in the same spot. Also, do not use them more than once or twice a week.

Micro links, they are not safe for fine and thin hair and you need to be careful even if you have thick hair. They can do damage to your natural hair. They take three hours or longer to put on, they are hard to sleep on and they slide off your hair easily. If they’re installed close to the scalp, which they need to be, they are itchy and painful especially in the first three weeks. They also need maintenance. This includes going in every 3-6 weeks for a fill.

The Weave Hair Extensions

Weaving ensures the extensions stay put, but if the braid is too tight, which it needs to be, it puts a strain on your scalp and causes hair scabbing (the new hair grows in already damaged, wiry and dry due to repeated treatments). It can cause your hair to fall out, and possibly eventually cause traction alopecia. If you have thin hair, forget weave extensions. They will pull your hair right out. Also, weft hair is usually poor quality hair. To top it all off, weave extensions need maintenance. They usually need to be re-done every 6-8 weeks.

Fusion Hair Extensions

Fusions are best for thicker hair. The process involves about ten hairs clumped together, and then glue or wax is used with a hot iron to hold the extension to your hair near the scalp. Some types of glues or adhesives may not be healthy for your hair or scalp, so you need to make sure you’re not causing the kind of damage mentioned above. Hair extensions do not need to damage your biological hair! Fusion hair extensions take three hours or longer to apply depending on how many extensions you need.

Tape-On Hair Extensions

There’s hope for those of you with thin or thinning hair! Tape-on hair extensions are safe for all hair types, especially for fine hair. However, not all tape-on extensions are equal:

There are tape-on extensions that go on as one long strip. I feel that these types of extensions don’t give the fullness like others do. Also the hair doesn’t flow the way it should.

Some tape-ons have no hair on the outside of the tape in order to make them look invisible when the hair moves. Poor quality tape-on hair extensions fray when they are removed.

Tape on hair extensions are reusable for six months up to a year. If someone tells you they are not reusable you are wasting your money!

The good high quality extensions are handmade 100% cuticle human Remy hair, with high quality adhesive. They will not only give you a longer-fuller look, but they will help your hair grow, to what you want in the meantime. And, you can reuse them every 6-8 weeks.

A full head of tape-on extensions can be done within half an hour to an hour.

Top of the head extensions – “Celebrities’ Secret”

Top of the head extensions are safe for all hair types! They are great for fine thin hair, hair loss, or simply more hair for fun. They are attached with surgical glue and tape, or just tape. We use high quality 100% human Remy hair. It is attached for 4-6 weeks and the hair is reusable. It lasts 6-8 months! The results we see are incredible! The best part is, no painful clips, tight braids or itching for weeks afterward and we can do everything you need in a half an hour to an hour.

Extensions are for length and underneath fullness, while the top of the head extensions give you fullness on the top of the head and length.

If your hair is thin or thinning, if you regularly use extensions, but want a better product, if you want to fix that bad cut or even if you just want to try it for fun, make your free consultation with the best hair extension salon in Michigan.

Do you have frizzy hair? Whether your natural bit of curl is reacting to summer’s humidity or your styling routine has left your hair scorched and sad, there are tips and treatments to help you! You don’t have to walk around all summer like a poodle that just got a bath.

Hydration!

The trick to controlling frizzy hair is targeting the problem in the shower with the right hydrating shampoo and conditioners. You heard that right. Conditioner! If you are trying to combat the moisture in the air by letting it get more dry, it will work against you. Even in humid conditions, your hair needs the protection of hydrating shampoo and conditioner.

Chances are, you are not going for the messy bun look every day, and you are still using a blow dryer and other heat to style your hair. Of course, the higher quality the products, the more likely they are to protect and make your hair shine without weighing it down or making it look greasy.

Be Kind to Your Hair!

Once you’ve laid the foundation with shampoo and conditioner, towel dry with a microfiber towel while it is still damp. Microfiber is much better for your hair because it’s very absorbent – curbing your desire to rub it dry – and because it’s light.

Do you turban your hair in a heavy towel after you shower? By re-thinking that step, and simply allowing your damp hair to rest on a towel over your shoulders, you may keep from stressing your hair line and creating breakages that add to the frizzy look.

Use a light-weight Eufora serum or Moroccanoil at this stage. As counter-intuitive as it may seem, the oil actually acts as a repellent to the humidity depending on your hair texture. For fine hair, apply from the mid length to the ends. For thick textured hair, apply from the roots to the ends.

Take it to the Next Level!

If you’re looking for a solution to combat summer frizz that will be very low-maintenance at home, try a Keratin or Brazilian Blowout treatment. These are both salon treatments using keratin and heat to bond the conditioning agent to your hair, giving you much longer lasting frizz control. It can take 2 to 3 hours depending how long or thick your hair is. The result is shiny, smooth, bouncy hair that stays through weeks of washes.

Imagine it: hair that’s more manageable, smooth, frizz-free and shiny. These treatments also can be used to soften or straighten your curls or kinks. No more flat iron every day. If you’re looking for lasting control, this might just be your answer, and it lasts between one to three months depending on which treatment you choose.

What better time to try something new and beat the crazy summer hair days?

Helpful Tips to Control Frizzy Unmanageable Hair

Get a trim every 6-8 weeks

Sleep on a satin pillowcase

Dry hair with microfiber towel

While towel drying the hair, don’t rub hair, but rather gently press and squeeze

Use a pomade when your hair is dry

Most women who have given birth know this dirty little secret. Just when your body is starting to feel like it might recover (if you could ever get more than three hours of sleep at a time) and your baby is discovering that he can, in fact, eat at predictable intervals, your hair starts falling out.

You find hair in the shower, on your pillow, and in your hand.

You may have heard some of the stories moms are anxious to tell: “my hair was tight curls before I had kids and then it relaxed” or “I got a bunch of gray hairs all at once!”

Many moms will tell you they lost the equivalent of a kitten from their head every day for six months before it calmed down. “Don’t worry,” they tell you, “it’ll grow back.”

But Why Is MY Hair Not Growing Back?

For most women, this is true. You may have annoying flyaways around your hairline for a while when the new hair grows in all at once. And yes, sometimes hair does change texture and grays will appear more thickly during the re-growth period.

But what if it doesn’t come back the same, or at all?

First, know that you are not alone. It is normal to lose hair after a pregnancy. In fact, approximately 45% of women will experience significant hair after giving birth.

Pregnancy and Labor Are Super Hard On Your Hair

Pregnancy and labor are hard on your hair causing growth cycles to go awry. The growth cycles can be interrupted in a number of ways and pregnancy can account for several of them:

Physical Stress

Surgery

Hormonal Disruption

Emotional Stress

Lesser Known Side Effects of Pregnancy

If you find that your hair is not growing back – if you’ve been waiting and waiting – consider trying to get to the bottom of some of these questions:

Have you had your thyroid checked?

An under active Thyroid can lead to increased Alopecia. Your thyroid may have been negatively impacted by having a baby. Thyroid issues can be related to Auto-Immune disorders, which also lead to hair loss – so it’s a double whammy of hair zapping potential.

Have you had a pelvic exam recently?

Another problem triggering hair loss is an imbalance of hormones. This could continue after pregnancy in the form of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. The Birth Control Pill can cause hair loss as well, similarly to pregnancy.

Are you getting enough protein, iron, and zinc?

Anemia can spell hair loss, and if you’re breastfeeding you may need to make sure you’re replacing the nutrients your body is giving to your baby. Otherwise, it may prioritize the baby and your own body’s needs away from giving to your hair.

Is it genetic?

This last question may help if you’re struggling with an ongoing hair loss problem that seems to be getting worse. Now that you think about it, you remember seeing wigs on Great Aunt Doris’ dresser when you were younger. While hair loss doesn’t just come from one parent or the other, it’s worth checking into whether the women in your family have experienced this too.

Good News for Postpartum Hair Loss

It’s your hair, and it’s worth fighting for. However, the good news is also that you don’t have to rely on Aunt Doris-style wigs anymore!

Whatever stage you are in, whether it is from postpartum hair loss or if you just want longer hair right away, so much more is possible these days. Contact Nadwa Hair Loss Center today and schedule a consultation.

Men are not alone when it comes to losing their hair.

An organization, The International Society of Hair Restoration, stated that more than 20 million women in the United States suffer from significant hair loss.

This can be a result of two more frequently occurring disorders: trichotillomania and alopecia.

Alopecia is described as a hereditary condition of hair falling out in clumps or patches, causing complete baldness.

Contrary to popular belief, men are not the sole suffers of this — women can be diagnosed with alopecia as well.

Trichotillomania, however, is not hereditary, but rather a compulsion; an urge to pull one’s hair out and, in some cases, eat it. This leads to noticeable hair loss, distress and social and functional impairment.

The only unfortunate thing about this is that many believe there is no way to help their situation. These conditions are not “un-treatable.”

When people think of wearing a wig or hair attachment, many still conjure up images of the obvious “piece” fooling no one and prompting immature ridicule, thus defeating the purpose.

Truth is, there have been significant and tremendous advancements in hair attachments and wigs. There is no reason now to suffer in silence or feel any kind of embarrassment for these conditions. For instance, there is a technique and attachment I use that is customized to match you existing hair and act like it as well — style it, wash it, dry it, swim in it, pull on it, anything and it won’t come off.

I am only 1 of just 4 percent of hairstylists in the United States certified for this Extended Wear procedure.

There is no reason to feel ashamed for anything. With 20 million women in just this country, you are most definitely not alone.
